Membership
Founded in 1979, La Société des calligraphes de Montréal is a non-profit organization whose goals are the exchange of ideas and information amongst professional and amateur calligraphers as well as with artists in related fields.
Through its activities, the Society aims to make calligraphy known to the public and encourage its members to attain a high level of competency in this field.
GENERAL MEETINGS
Every two months from September to May, members are invited to general meetings during which they can share ideas and exchange information. Invited guests – calligraphers, illuminators, or artists from related disciplines – demonstrate their skills or share their experience in the fields of letter making and bookmaking. (Meetings Schedule)
ADMINISTRATIVE BOARD
At the annual general meeting, members hold elections for the administrative board. The board elaborates the rules of the society, assures its proper functioning, and organizes activities.
L’ARABESQUE
L’ARABESQUE, the Society’s newsletter, is published three times a year. It features articles, interviews, achievements, and events of calligraphic interest as well as a list of activities organized by the Society.
The Society also receives newsletters from sister societies, which are available to members at general meetings.

The Society regularly promotes and organizes workshops, demonstrations and conferences given by local and internationally renowned calligraphers and illuminators. It also presents exhibitions open to the general public.
