Introduction to Italic with Marco Chioini (Part 2)

30 November • 9:00 am4:30 pm

TWO SATURDAYS – November 23rd and 30th, 2019

The Italic hand arose from the 15th century papal chancery. It lends itself to many functions and is very versatile, which is why it is often used as a basis for learning calligraphy. Light, elegant and fluid, it is, however, more difficult than one might think.

This workshop with Marco Chioini, is over the course of two Saturdays (November 23rd and 30th, 2019). It will cover both minuscules and majuscules and will address the basic rules that govern the Italic hand, so that you can continue exploring this writing style at home: from nib angles, to slopes, ductus, proportions, spacing, etc.

Level: it’s preferable to know at least one style of writing for this course, or to at least know the basics of pen handling, nibs and ink.

For more advanced calligraphers, it will be possible to explore Italic variations during this workshop.
