Below is a detailed list of all elected positions held within the Société des calligraphes de Montréal. Elections are held at the annual general assembly in May each year or during a special meeting.

ELECTED POSITIONS

All elected positions are regulated through the Bylaws of the Société des calligraphy de Montréal (adopted September 2016)

VOTING:

      All decisions by the board must be voted on, and include:

  • Budgetary decisions
  • Workshops
  • Scholarship decisions and donations
  • Amendments
  • Any other pertinent decision impacting the Société des calligraphes de Montréal

President (2 year term)

  • Voting member of the board (1 vote)
  • Oversees general operations related to the Société des calligraphes de Montréal, including:
    • Presides over and organizes 4 General Member meetings per year
    • Presides over and organizes 4 Board meetings per year
    • Oversees agendas for meetings
    • Deals with most communication to members and at large
    • Organizes surveys when necessary
    • Participates in events hosted by the Société
    • Oversees all e-mail accounts, Zoom accounts, etc.
  • Ensures that public facing factions of the Société follow the Mission Statement and reflect the values of the Société (Social Media, Website, events, etc.)
  • Produces a President’s Report for each member’s meeting
  • Produces a President’s Message for each L’Arabesque
  • Co-signatory on bank statements
  • Liaise between all volunteer and elected positions
  • Recruits volunteers, board members, and new members
  • Participates in Scholarship selection committees
  • May hold other volunteer positions

Secretary (2 year term)

  • Voting member of the board (1 vote)
  • Attends 4 Board meetings per year
  • Takes Board meeting minutes
  • Takes General Members’ meeting minutes unless a Meeting’s Secretary is selected
  • Recruits volunteers, board members, and new members
  • May participate in Scholarship selection committees
  • May participate in sub-committees when necessary
  • May hold other volunteer positions
  • Aids in organization of all meetings when necessary as support to the President

Treasurer (2 year term)

  • Voting member of the board (1 vote)
  • Attends 4 Board meetings per year
  • Co-signatory on bank statements
  • Responsible for day-to-day finances and accounting
  • Produces the yearly budget
  • Produces a fiscal report at the end of each fiscal year (April 30)
  • Presents finance update at each meeting
  • Presents the fiscal report at the Annual General Assembly in May of every year
  • Oversees PayPal account
  • Submits REQ paperwork annually
  • Signs contracts with teachers and any rental organization for workshops
  • Recruits volunteers, board members, and new members
  • May participate in Scholarship selection committees
  • May participate in sub-committees when necessary
  • May hold other volunteer positions
  • Aids in organization of all meetings when necessary as support to the President

Administrator/General Board Member – 3 positions (2 year term)

  • Voting member of the board (1 vote each)
  • Attends 4 Board meetings per year
  • Recruits volunteers, board members, and new members
  • May participate in Scholarship selection committees
  • May participate in sub-committees when necessary
  • May hold other volunteer positions
  • Aids in organization of all meetings when necessary as support to the President and Secretary
