This beginner’s course will bring you into a magical realm where the manipulation of gold leaf, colors, and illumination are explored. You will learn the nine basic and necessary steps of illumination in working with an uncial letter.
During the week interval , participants will be able to practice the guided exercises to develop an ease with this ancestral medium.
Born into a family with deep artistic traditions, Brigite Papineau follows in the footsteps of her grandfather, restorer of high altars and religious art. Brigite has a bachelor’s degree in geography with a cartography option, as well as extensive training in visual arts. Her areas of practice include calligraphy, illumination, iconography, watercolor and ink and wash techniques.
A member of La Société des calligraphes de Montréal since 2000, she has been teaching calligraphy and illumination since 2010.
Each student will receive a set of specialized materials, prepared by Brigite ($75 value).
No prerequisites needed
Registration fee (materials included):
– $320 members
– $420 non-members
List of materials to bring (provided by the student)
– Lunch, recommended (few restaurants in the area)
– Lead pencils, HB and 2H
– Eraser
– X-acto knife with fine point or scalpel
– Small pieces of silk fabric for shining the gold leaf (optional)
N.B. If you do not have all the equipment to bring, the teacher can lend you silk, X-acto or scalpel.
Sanitary standards to be respected: In-person workshop only.
Mask and vaccination passport may be required.
